From wildflowers to waterfalls, here are my go-to dreamy spots for portraits.
One of my favorite parts of engagement sessions is helping couples find the perfect location — one that reflects their story, their style, and the season. Whether you want a romantic garden, tall prairie grass, or golden light on the water, Minnesota has no shortage of beautiful, tucked-away spots. Here are a few of my all-time favorite places to photograph engagement sessions:
Arneson Acres Park – Edina, MN
This is hands-down one of my go-to spots for classic, elegant portraits. With beautiful landscaping, flowerbeds that bloom all season, and peaceful stone paths, it’s a timeless backdrop that feels elevated but still approachable. There’s even a fountain tucked into the center of the garden — and bonus, parking is easy and it's a quick stroll to each scenic corner.
Norenberg Memorial Gardens – Orono, MN
This one feels like a hidden European garden just west of the city. Think floral arches, hedges, and golden light peeking through the trees. Tucked next to Lake Minnetonka, it’s romantic and a little tucked away — perfect for soft, dreamy portraits with a quiet feel.
Willow River State Park – Hudson, WI
Okay, technically not in Minnesota — but it’s just across the border and well worth the drive. If you want waterfall backdrops, wild cliffs, and a little adventure, this is the place. I love photographing couples here at sunset when the light filters through the trees and hits the falls just right.
Como Park & Conservatory – St. Paul, MN
A local icon for a reason. Whether we’re photographing by the lily pond, under the arches of the Conservatory, or walking through the sunken garden, there’s beauty in every direction. It’s stunning year-round, especially in spring when everything blooms — or in winter when we escape into the warm, tropical light of the Conservatory.
Wildflower Fields – Seasonal Locations Throughout Minnesota
If you’re dreaming of something soft, sunlit, and full of color, wildflower fields are always a favorite of mine. These locations are especially magical in July and August when the blooms are at their peak.
Long Lake Park – New Brighton, MN
A hidden gem just north of the city, this park has golden wildflowers, tall grasses, and a gentle lake breeze. It’s the perfect spot for relaxed movement and glowing light.
William O’Brien State Park – Stillwater, MN
Tall prairie grass, scattered wildflowers, and open fields make this park feel spacious and natural. It’s ideal for playful, movement-filled portraits and laid-back love stories.
Minnesota Landscape Arboretum – Chaska, MN
With acres and acres of gardens, meadows, and blooming fields, the Arboretum is one of the most diverse places for portraits. It’s perfect for couples who want a styled wildflower feel or a more curated garden look. (Note: a permit is required, but it’s worth it!)
Hole-in-the-Mountain Prairie – Lincoln County, MN
A bit more of a drive, but the views are unmatched. Rolling hills, native blooms, and even butterflies — this prairie preserve is quiet, open, and stunning for sunset portraits that feel like a breath of fresh air.
