A Waterfall Engagement Session Full of Joy, Movement, and Meaning
Engagement photography in Hudson, WI — serving the Twin Cities, Shoreview, and Greater Minneapolis
There’s something about engagement sessions that I absolutely love — the ease, the anticipation, and the chance to witness two people in that sweet season of waiting. Joe and Deb’s session at Willow River State Park in Hudson, Wisconsin (just a short drive from the Twin Cities), was no exception. Set against the roar of the waterfalls and golden hour light peeking through the trees, this evening was filled with laughter, movement, and so much love.
Joe and Deb met through mutual friends in Deb’s church small group at Vertical Church — a St. Paul Church I’m grateful to be a part of as well. From the very beginning, their connection was evident. You can feel it in the way Joe steadies her hand or how Deb lights up (literally bouncing up and down!) every time he pulls her in. One of my favorite moments from their session was on the wooden bridge overlooking the falls — Joe gave her a twirl and she beamed with delight as the water rushed below. It was joy in motion. A small, unforgettable glimpse of the life they’re building together.
Despite the roar of the waterfalls making it nearly impossible for them to hear my directions, they were endlessly patient, kind, and so easy to photograph. Engagement sessions like this are one of the most important parts of the process for me as a wedding & portrait photographer — not only do we get to create beautiful photos, but it’s also a chance to get comfortable, build trust, and really connect. And these two made it such a joy.
Looking Ahead
Joe and Deb, I am so honored to walk alongside you in this season and beyond. I cannot wait for your September wedding at Bloom Lake Barn in Shafer, MN — if your engagement session was any indication, your wedding day is going to be full of love for the Lord, emotion, and meaning. Thank you for trusting me with this part of your story. Let the countdown begin!
All my love,
Emmy
